The New Complete Babysitter's Handbook
Published in Hardcover by Clarion Books (March, 1995)
Authors: Carol Barkin, Elizabeth James, and Martha Weston
Average review score:

The book was good but to basic for most people.
The book offered good information but really basic information. The book also didn't have any tips for getting started except make a flyer. So i recommend getting another babysitting book.

The New Complete Babysitter's Handbook is awesome!!!
This book gives you all you need to know about babysitting and is fun to read. I think it is quite descriptive on the processes of first aid and so on. I think everyone will enjoy reading this book, kids who are just starting to babysit or who already babysit but just want to brush up on stuff.

Psychology: Mind, Brain, and Culture
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (October, 1995)
Authors: Drew Westen and Drew Weston
Average review score:

Excellent for some
I just recently bought this book for my intro to Pysch class. It is laid out well, is very readable, and has lots of graphics. Needless to say that makes it a true easily digestible introductory text with limited information on each topic. Buyers beware that friends of Jung will find no friends here. He is never to my knowledge mentioned in the text and is certainly not in any of the indexes. It is oriented to a "scientifically provable" approach to psychology and will be an excellent text for those who share this viewpoint.

A Joy
I recently took an introductory psychology course, and this was the assigned text. I can say without hesitation that this is one of the most readable textbooks, in any subject, I've ever seen. Westen has a gift for explaining complex concepts in a very clear, understandable way. The relevent antecdotes and occasional wry humor work to make this book all the more enjoyable to read. I would recommend this book to anyone taking an introductory psych class, or anyone who just wants to learn the basics of psychology.

Taggert: The Gravestone Rangewar
Published in Paperback by Writers Showcase Press (August, 2002)
Author: Dee Weston
Average review score:

Great Gift
"Taggert" would be a great gift for your friends who have read all of L'Amour's book and for those who would appreciate Weston's play on words. The story moves quickly and the conversations among the characters are hilarious.

Taggert, the best of its kind!
If you like westerns, or have ever read Louis L'Amour, you will love Taggert. The author has produced a stunning satire of the wild western saga. The humor is subtle at times and outrageous at other times. This book is well written and entertaining. You will cheer for our hapless hero as he captures the heart of the damsel in distress and routes the bad guys. This book is well worth the price and promises to be a fun read. I hope to see further adventures of Taggert!

The Art of Frank W. Benson : American Impressionist
Published in Paperback by Peabody Essex Museum (September, 2000)
Authors: Frank Weston Benson, Laurene Buckley, Dean T. Lahikainen, Jane M. Winchell, Faith Andrews Bedford, and Peabody Essex Museum
Average review score:

Getting to know Frank Benson
Faith Bedford has produced a stirring tribute to Frank Benson. The book contains 180 illustrations with 100 in color but this book really is more a biography and less an exhibition of his work. Having said that, the story is not just his but also very much the story of the earliest American Impressionists. A careful study of Benson's paintings in this book shows elements of his colleagues Whistler, Sargent, and Cassatt. But I also see works like "Hunter in a Boat" and watercolors like "Salmon River in Canada" that strongly suggest Winslow Homer. William Gerdts in the introduction to the book wrote, "Frank Benson painted some of the most beautiful pictures ever executed by an American artist." Studying this book and relishing the exquisite paintings in it helps one to understand those highly complimentary words.

Although Bedford's title, "Frank W. Benson, American Impressionist" suggests an emphasis on his impressionist work, the book also shows other painting styles. During his lifetime Benson won most of the awards any artist could. Reading the book enables one to understand clearly why.

Basic Documents in International Law and World Order
Published in Paperback by West Information Pub Group (June, 1980)
Author: Burns H. Weston
Average review score:

this is the basic text
There are few books you can describe as "the basic text", but this is certainly one of them. It should be required reading in every international law class in the world, but alas it is only required in a few hundred of the tens of thousands going on an any given time. Weston and his collection of authors are all looking for ways of makikng thhe international legal system a truly functional order for the governance of otherwise anarchic inter-state relations. Weston's pulled together the very best, some of which are classics, and a few of which were really undiscovered until he came along and plucked the writing and his/her writing from academic obscruity. This book need not be the sole province of the law student -- it is equally useful to the current practitoners.

Between Nature and Culture: Photographs of the Getty Center
Published in Hardcover by J Paul Getty Museum Pubns (July, 1999)
Authors: Deal Joe, Mark Johnstone, Richard Meier, Weston Naef, and Joe Deal
Average review score:

Fascinating look at the site and construction of the Getty.
The transformation of one of the most imposing "wild" parcels of land in Los Angeles into what is now the Getty Center (Museum, etc.) is the story of these stunning, beautiful black and white photographs. These images and thoughtful essays will be appreciated by anyone interested in art, landscapes, culture and/or modern architecture.

C-66: A World War II Chronicle of an Armored Infantry Company
Published in Hardcover by Weston Lewis Emery (02 October, 1992)
Author: Weston L. Emery
Average review score:

Day by Day Existence as an Armored Infantryman
W.L. Emory takes a different approach in bringing us the history of Company C (Hqs. Co.) of the 66th Armored Infantry Battalion of the 12th Armored Division from November, 1944 to war's end. Most of the other ex-infantrymen authors who have published accounts of World War II relate personal experiences of the excitement, terror, humor, and even boredom of combat. Sgt. Emory takes a more structured and factual approach in this self-published work. He relies on military records found in various Government archives to form the foundation of his book. He employs morning and after-action reports which are further rounded out by personal letters, copies of orders, short action histories, and modern day interviews with surviving C-66 members. What he ends up with is a day to day record of what happened to this particular company as it saw action in Northern France and Germany. Emory traces the progress of the division by means of a series of well-annotated maps. We see men promoted, having birthdays, reported as AWOL or transferred, reported as sick, wounded and KIA and consequently taken off the company roster so that replacements can be requested. This may not strike the reader as particularly exciting, but it is definitely normal military life. Emory gives us the structure and manpower of an armored division and how it differs from that of a foot infantry division. Where a regular infantry division would be organized into three rifle regiments, an armored division would be organized into three combat commands. Where regular infantrymen would wear their garrison caps cocked over the right eye, armored infantrymen would wear them over the left eye. Emory also adds information which I found particularly interesting. He gives a summary of the MOS descriptions for the various jobs in an infantry company; rifleman, driver, squad leader, messenger, machine gunner and so on. I was surprised to see how concise these descriptions are. It is apparent that in the army of WWII, it was not necessary to go into great detail of what a man's job was. Soldiers were expected to know their jobs without lengthy explanation.

This book is not a blow by blow account of how the author fought his way through the ETO. What it is is a good, solid account of what life was like in an armored infantry company as it attacked the Siegfried Line, made a significant detour to eliminate the Colmar Pocket, and finally broke into southern Germany and contributed to bringing the war to an end.
